Elderberry Fund Celebrates Grant Recipients

We are excited to celebrate the incredible organizations who have been selected as the grant recipients from the Elderberry Fund, which has made a meaningful donation that will support critical resources to strengthen services, operations, and benefit the PEC community overall. 

The Elderberry Fund is a donor-advised fund established by a local couple whose support will have a positive impact on community-building organizations and causes that are close to their hearts. The fund is administered by The County Foundation.

2025 Municipal Community In-Kind Grant Recipients

An additional six community organizations are enhancing the quality of life for residents thanks to in-kind support from the County of Prince Edward.

 

The second round of applications to the in-kind stream of the Municipal Community Grants program opened this past fall. With these six additional successful applications, the municipality has provided a total of $20,000 of in-kind support to 12 organizations in 2025. In addition, 30 organizations have received cash grants this year. A list of all 2025 recipients can be found here.

2025 Grant Recipients (Second Intake)

The recipients during the secondary intake period include:

  • The County Marathon
    $2,000 to support the rental of the Crystal Palace in Picton
  • Grow With Me Programs
    $1,779 to support the rental of the Sophiasburgh Town Hall for Professional Activity (PA) day camps and after school programming
  • Prince Edward Learning Centre
    $2,000 to support ice rental for the County Cup, a community-based fundraising hockey tournament 
  • Shatterbox Theatre
    $958 to support the rental of the Sophiasburgh Town Hall for the rehearsal of shows Silent Sky and Next to Normal
  • Terror  at Macaulay event 
    $1,500 to support the rental of Macaulay House, side grounds, and Carriage House
  • Together Through Pain
    $1,652 to support the rental of Picton Town Hall for seven monthly support group meetings

The Municipal Community Grants Program is made possible through funding from the County of Prince Edward and is administered by The County Foundation (TCF). The County Foundation works with an adjudication panel to determine which applicants receive the grants.


There are two intake periods for the in-kind funding stream. The primary intake takes place in the Spring with the full amount of funding for the year available. The secondary intake occurs in the Fall and allocates the remaining in-kind funds to projects scheduled later in the cycle, which often have shorter planning timelines.

The County Foundation was pleased to announce the 2025 Huff Family Fund grant recipients at Huff Estates Winery on November 26th, 2025.

The Huff Family Fund was established in 2017 and officially launched in 2018 and is managed by The County Foundation. The Huff Fund supports a broad range of organizations benefiting Prince Edward County including addiction and mental health, animal welfare, arts and culture, healthcare and human services, housing issues and Vital Signs priority areas. Thank you to Lanny and Catharine for their ongoing commitment to supporting Prince Edward County.

2025 Grant Recipients

The 2025 Huff Family Fund grants totaling $250k will benefit 22 organizations who make a difference in our community across many vital sectors. The Huff Family Fund is a matching grant, meaning that each dollar received must be matched by either dollars or volunteer time, increasing the impact of the funding. 

 Al Purdy A-frame Association APAFA will increase the numbers of weeks of residency, develop and launch a second Mentorship Fellowship, develop a Community Project Resource Tool for writers, and increase the number of events. 
 Baxter Arts Centre Funding will support the growth and expansion of Baxter's programming, including game workshops and the continuation of the Bloomfield Night Time Parade's 'Pre-Parade Activities' event. Funding will also support the continuation and expansion of Baxter's Summer Camps and 20 week-long camps. 
 Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) Funding will support the Adjustment to Sight Loss (A2SL) 7-week program.  

Community Care For Seniors 

Funding will be used to purchase essential kitchen equipment for the newly established County Seniors' Centre in Picton (including a fridge, stove, microwave, and 10-piece cookware set) from a local supplier. 
County Food Hub Funding to support a 5-week culinary course in PEC held at County Food Hub (CFH) that provides no-cost, universally accessible, cooking classes.  
County Stage Company Funding supports the 2026 Season, which will include 4 productions produced by CSC's repertory company performed in venues across PEC. 
Driftwood Theatre Young Playmakers Program (YPM) program for PEC youth ages 11-17. 
Heal with Horses Ensure the high-quality nutrition of their animals, who are essential for their delivery of effective programming (including equine therapy & small farm animal interactions. 
Humane Society HPE  Supporting HSHPE's Pet Food Bank, which was recently soft launched to address the "growing but unseen need" of pet food insecurity. 
Music at Port Milford  Funding to build new music practice sheds at its Port Milford campus, offering dedicated space for focused individual practice. 
Ontario Farmland Trust 
Advance farmland protection by establishing OFT-PEC Alliance, which will provide place-based outreach, volunteer opportunities, and communications specific to PEC.
 Prince Edward Learning Centre  Support for the Financial Empowerment program team to connect PEC residents with low incomes to two undersubscribed federal benefits (Disability Tax Credit & the Registered Disability Savings Plan) and support them through the months-long application process. 
Quintissimo Funding will support providing underprivileged youth aged 6-12 with free instrumental music education at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute. 
Reaching for Rainbows Expanding programming to ages 6-12 and establishing a new STEM-focused program for the older group. 
Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward Program providing people living with dementia 12 weeks of in-home activity and companionship, while offering relief/respite to caregivers. 
County Museums Flashback February - Exhibition featuring a series of lesser-known objects from museum collection, displayed alongside new works created by 10 local textile artists that are inspired by these collection items. 
Department of Illumination Continuation of Delhi Park Pageant project; a free community arts programming in Delhi Park culminating in an annual pageant. 
HPE Learning Foundation Requesting support for 3 core programs, including Food for Learning, Sharing Cupboards, and the Student Emergency Fund. 
Comedy Country Funding supports a live comedy series and training program. 
 TheROC Youth Services Funding supports Get Grounded; a three-week mental well-being workshop designed specifically for intermediate youth (Grades 7-8) in Prince Edward County. 
Three Oaks Foundation Provides emergency shelter and support services for women and their children who are experiencing abuse. Funding to expand services by offering taxi transportation for women from Prince Edward County back to their communities—for appointments, school, work, or other connections. 
Young Imaginations An initiative that brings the Rotinonhsyón:ni culture alive for youth 8 to 12 through immersive arts experiences. 

In addition to the above, there are several ongoing multi-year commitments through the Huff Family Fund which include:  

 County Kids Read Distribute 1800 books (600 per year) focused on enhancing literacy and STEM learning opportunities.  
 Prince Edward Public Library & Archives  Annual series of author talks in June, tied to Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27, and Pride Month in June.  
 Prince Edward County Arts Council  Art Together: Free weekly drop-in facilitated art-making studio led by professional Artist Facilitators for community members 16+.

The County Foundation is thrilled to celebrate the recipients of the Municipal Community Grants program.

The Municipal Community Grants are financial or in-kind assistance that support Community Organizations providing programs, services or activities that enhance the quality of life for Prince Edward County residents. The Municipal Community Grants Program is made possible through funding from the County of Prince Edward in partnership with The County Foundation (TCF), which administers the program.

The purpose of the grants are to improve the well-being and quality of life of the community and its residents, through financial assistance to not-for-profit and community based organizations which provide programs and services in culture, heritage, recreation, environment, and health & human services. The municipal community grant intends to support the work of community organizations across Prince Edward County that benefit a wide cross section of residents.

The next intake round for submissions for cash grants will take place in Spring 2026.

The County Foundation is pleased to celebrate the recipients of the inaugural PEC Arts Fund. 

This fund supports arts-mandated organizations providing services, programs, and amenities in the realm of the arts. Organizations may apply for single or multi-year grants to assist with general operating expenses, special projects, capacity building, events, or programming. 

The PEC Arts Fund was established in early 2025, following an extensive review process of the Municipal Community Grants program and analysis of local supports for the arts sector, undertaken in partnership by the Municipality, The County Foundation, and the Prince Edward County Arts Council (County Arts) to find a mechanism that could be leveraged to better support the arts in our community.  

This year, the program offered $60k in available funding for both 2025 and 2026. Ten organizations were selected to receive a total of $60,000 in funding in 2025 and $43,672 in 2026 (full detailed list below). We hope to continue to grow the amount of available funding to further support the incredible organizations that provide programs and services in Prince Edward County.

Below is a breakdown of the recipients, the amount of funding they were awarded, as well as a summary of their plans for the funding. We thank everyone who applied to the inaugural year of this program, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of their work over the next two years. 

Al Purdy A-frame Association - Awarded $2,000 in 2025 

For over a decade, the Al Purdy A-Frame Association has stewarded Ontario's only dedicated writing residency, providing focused, paid time and space for writers to work in the former home of one of Canada's seminal writers.


Funding will provide operational support to implement an artistic program expansion, which includes expanding the residency program from 27 to 34 weeks, and building relationships with partners and potential sponsors across PEC and Eastern Ontario. 

Alchemy Artist Residency - Awarded $2,000 in 2025 

An Artist-led initiative to engage and encourage artists to continue work in progress or undertake new work inspired by the people and land of this dynamic rural agricultural setting.

Baxter Arts Centre - Awarded $4,964 in 2025 & $4,672 in 2026 

The Baxter Arts Centre exists to create a wide range of arts and education programming, maintain the Don Baxter Memorial Building and local history, and share their well-designed space to inspire and promote community events in the heart of Bloomfield, Ontario.


Funding will support an initiative to increase the organization’s visibility in the region, which includes increased newsletter and social media outreach, as well as plans to increase connections with low-income families.

County Stage Company - Awarded $8,036 in 2025

County Stage Company is a dynamic, growing performing arts company located in Prince Edward County. Their work is rooted in the fabric of the community, inspiring creativity, gathering and pride of place. 


Funding will provide operational support to help County Stage deliver its ambitious and diverse 2025 season.

Music at Port Milford (MPM) - Awarded $4,000 in 2025 & $4,000 in 2026 

Music at Port Milford offers a residential chamber music academy for students ages 10-19, a choral day camp program for local elementary students, a world-class concert series, and free live music events in Prince Edward County. 


Funding will provide operational support to increase the sustainability of MPM’s programs and operations.

Prince Edward County Arts Council - Awarded $10,000 in 2025 & $10,000 in 2026 

County Arts, formally incorporated as the Prince Edward County Arts Council in 1986, was initially formed in 1979 when members of the community got together to form a group dedicated to promoting the arts in Prince Edward County. 


Funding will provide operational support to allow County Arts to continue operating as the community’s only arts service organization.

Prince Edward County Jazz Festival -  Awarded $4,000 in 2025 

The Prince Edward County Jazz Festival promotes appreciation and public understanding of jazz and advances musical education for students and young musicians by presenting high quality performances, training and mentoring experiences, awards, and clinics in PEC and surrounding areas. 

Funding will provide operational support to produce and execute a 6-day music festival delivering a program of 30+ performances throughout PEC.

Quintissimo - Awarded $5,000 in 2025 & $5,000 in 2026 

Quintissimo is an El-Sistema based free after school music program. Their mission is to empower children to reach their full potential by using music education to inspire positive social change. 


Funding will provide operational support, allowing Quintissimo to increase overall capacity over the next two school years by hiring two additional music instructors, establishing a ukulele program, and welcoming at least 20 new students.

The Department of Illumination - Awarded $10,000 in 2025 & $10,000 in 2026 

The Department of Illumination aims to bring joy and creativity to our community by producing festivals, workshops, and other artistic events. They strive to be a cultural leader, demonstrating excellence and innovation in rural arts. 


Funding will provide operational support allowing the organization to continue providing its signature programs, as well as launching the new Art on Wheels program in 2026.

Regent Theatre  - Awarded $10,000 in 2025 & $10,000 in 2026

The Regent Theatre is a heritage designated Prince Edward County landmark that is one of the anchors of Main Street Picton. Built in 1918, the theatre brings year-round entertainment to the County. 


Funding will provide general operational support to help achieve The Regent’s goal to expand the number of visitors to the theatre by 25% in 2025, representing an increase of more than 5,500 additional guests. This grant will help to cover the corresponding increase in general operating costs and marketing costs.

Supporting the PEC Arts Fund

As part of their ongoing advocacy work, County Arts identified that $200k in base funding would be needed to meet the needs of local arts organizations, and so in order to help close the funding gap and to leverage the MAT funding from Council, the PEC Arts Fund also welcomes external donations through The County Foundation, enabling local businesses and individuals to support the arts in our community.   


In Prince Edward County, we all benefit from a dynamic and vibrant artistic and cultural community. The arts are an essential part of shaping a community's identity and creating moments of shared joy between friends and neighbours. They can help to drive economic growth across other sectors and industries, and they can embolden and inspire people to share their own stories in unique and meaningful ways.

Municipal Community Grants Launching February 10th!

Throughout 2024, the Municipal Community Grants went through an extensive review process, resulting in the establishment of the new PEC Arts Fund and changes to the Municipal Community Grants program.  


The Municipal Community Grants provide financial or in-kind support to Community Organizations that provide programs, services or activities in culture, heritage, recreation, environment, and health & human services.  

Arts Organizations are no longer eligible to apply for cash funding through the Municipal Community Grants program. They can instead apply to the PEC Arts Fund, which supports organizations that have a stated mandate to provide services, programs and amenities in the realm of the arts (including but not limited to visual, performing and performance, literary, media and decorative arts). 

The County Foundation will be accepting grant applications for the 2025 Municipal Community Grants from February 10th to March 24th, 2025.

The County Foundation is pleased to celebrate the recipients of the inaugural Vital Impact Fund. 

The Vital Impact Fund was established by The County Foundation in 2024 as a new signature fund that unites the work of our Vital Signs data collection and our grant programs to better serve the needs of the Prince Edward County community. 

Vital Signs® is an ongoing national, community-driven data program that consolidates snapshots of the trends and vital issues that impact Prince Edward County. The County Foundation uses Vital Signs reports and data, conversations with community leaders and experts, and our grant knowledge to inform the decision-making process as part of the Vital Impact Fund. 

The 14 initiatives listed below address one or more of the 9 key areas identified in the national, community-driven Vital Signs® data program: Community, Economy, Education, Environment, Food Security, Health, Housing, Safety, and Transportation. Each of the recipients pictured above is holding at least one icon that represents the Vital Signs areas that their initiatives will be targeting - although many overlap across multiple other areas!

2024 Grant Recipients

The 2024 Vital Impact Fund grants, totaling $206k, will benefit 14 organizations who over the next year will be addressing needs in our community identified by Vital Signs. Below is a breakdown of the recipients, their plans, and how the initiatives relate to Vital Signs. We thank everyone who applied and we look forward to seeing positive impact that this work will show over the next year. 

Alternatives for Women: Community, Safety

Funding will support a new 12-week program called 'Caring Dads.' The program works towards the end of gender-based violence and violence against children with intervention and education of fathers who are at risk of causing harm to their children and their mothers. Caring Dads aims to teach men skills to improve the safety and well-being of their children and the children’s mother. 

County Kids Read: Education

Funding will support County Kids Read’s capacity-building initiatives, including partnership program enhancements, event program enhancements, and enhancement of evaluation frameworks to track impact of programs. 'Securing a Sustainable Future' aims to address PEC's lagging early development and educational outcomes. By giving children the opportunity to take home and keep their own new books, County Kids Read will help children and their families access the extensive benefits of a comprehensive home library. 

County of Prince Edward Public Library & Archives: Community, Education

Funding will support creation of a new collection of international language (non-English and non-French) books to the children's book collection. The project addresses changing demographics within Prince Edward County, which includes a rise in the population of 0–9 year-olds due to new families moving to PEC (Vital Signs 2024). A Library for Everyone aims to enhance feelings of inclusion and belonging within the community as demographics shift. 

Department of Illumination: Community, Education, Food Security

Funding will support the continued operation and growth of The Art Kitchen program, a free weekly drop-in that provides art supplies and instruction, along with healthy snacks and free books (provided by a partnership with County 

Kids Read).  

  

This initiative follows the 2023 relocation of The Art Kitchen from downtown Picton to Macaulay Village, as the community, despite its higher than average population density (400+ people in a few square kilometers compared to 24.4 per kilometer in the rest of PEC) can face additional barriers to access due to its geographic isolation and limited public transportation.  

  

The Art Kitchen's targeted approach puts community first and foremost to supplement some of those other supports in a consistent and easily accessible way. 

Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation: Community, Education, Food Security, Health

Funding will support the Food for Learning (FFL) program, which provides students with nourishing in-school breakfasts to reduce food insecurity in children and youth. Support from the Vital Impact Fund will address the effects of rising food and grocery costs (which saw an 11.4% year over year increase in November 2022), which places strain on FFL programs through the increase of operating costs and the number of families who depend on these programs. 

The HUB Child & Family Centre: Community, Economy, Education

Funding will assist the HUB Child and Family Centre's childcare services by covering leasehold improvements for a new 49-space childcare centre. This expansion of childcare spaces addresses the urgent need for childcare in PEC, evidenced by growth of the HUB's waitlist from 0 children in 2013 to 424 children in 2024 (Vital Signs, 2024). This new location blends with the HUB's vision of a "community within a community" and its mission to provide a variety of quality services and supports to enhance the well-being for all.   

Picton Community Gardens: Community, Environment, Food Security

Funding will be used to upgrade the community garden fence to a 7' permanent perimeter fence to reduce theft and vandalism, supporting sustainable operations for Picton Community Garden’s activities. In the eight years since its creation, the Picton Community Garden has had a multi-faceted impact on its local community. In addition to re-purposing a former town dump into space for over 30 gardeners, the Community Garden also supplies fresh produce to several Food Bank programs in Picton. 

Picton United Church Food Bank: Food Security, Health

Picton United Church Food Bank's objectives address a sharp increase in demand, which rose from 2,321 individual users in 2019 to approximately 4,600 in 2024. Vital Impact Funding will be used to support the Foodbank's services for clients, which include the distribution of 200 $50 grocery gift cards, purchasing of personal hygiene items for clients, and the purchase of fresh produce and meat to assist clients with health alternatives to dietary intake. 

Pinecrest Housing: Community, Education, Housing

For Pinecrest Housing, support from the Vital Impact Fund will assist with the hiring of coordination and administrative staff of their affordable housing initiative for seniors. This development project addresses the urgent need for affordable housing, as the number of subsidized units in PEC has remained unchanged since 2018, while households in need have nearly doubled from 230 to 433 (Vital Signs, 2024). 

Prince Edward Collegiate Institute: Community, Education, Environment, Food Security, Health 

Vital Impact Funding will go towards remaining costs for PECI's construction of a learning garden and outdoor classroom. This new learning space aims to create an environment that is welcoming and safe for all students, whose diverse voices will be included throughout the design process. The learning garden will also support PECI's distribution of weekly food baskets to families in need, which has experienced a rise in demand over the past two years. 

Reaching for Rainbows: Economy, Education, Food Security, Health  

Funding will support Reaching for Rainbows’ operational costs, allowing the organization to expand their programs for young girls aged 6-9 and continue to provide wrap-around support for program participants in Picton. 


Reaching for Rainbows currently provides 30 spaces for afterschool childcare throughout the week and hopes to increase capacity in the next 3-5 years to expand their program into other municipalities in PEC. 

theROC Youth Services: Education, Food Security, Health, Housing, Safety, Transportation   

Vital Impact Funding will contribute to the continued operation the ROC's Youth Inclusion Program (YIP), which offers a safe, stigma-free space where youth can openly discuss their struggles and access immediate mental wellness support. Funds will support staff positions and will also be used to improve the ROC's strategies for youth engagement, feedback, and participation. 

The Corporation for the County of Prince Edward - Tree Giveaway: Environment 

Funding will be used to improve the scope and reach of the Prince Edward County's 'Tree Giveaway Program,' which provides free saplings to PEC residents. The expansion of this high-demand program aims to double the number of trees given away from 2000 in 2024 to 4000 in 2025, while also improving the variety of tree offerings with diverse native species. 

The Corporation for the County of Prince Edward - Future of Food Security in Prince Edward County: Food Security 

The Future of Food Security in Prince Edward County represents a collaborative effort to fight food insecurity PEC by reviving and building upon the work of The Food Collective. Vital Impact Funding will support the collaboration's identification of key actions and opportunities to address food insecurity, the development and implementation of a communication strategy, and the hosting of facilitated discussions regarding food security.  The Future of Food Security initiative seeks to respond to the increase in moderate-to-severe food insecurity for Hastings-Prince Edward, which rose to an estimated 10% of the population in 2021. 

The 2024 Vital Impact Fund grants, totaling over $206k, will benefit the organizations listed above as they work to make a difference across these vital sectors in our community. 

The Vital Impact Fund is generously supported by contributions from the Wynne Thomas Estate, the Kathy & Douglas MacPherson Estate, and from The County Foundation’s discretionary funds.  

In addition to the above recipients, the Douglas & Kathy MacPherson Estate also generously supports: 

  • The Macpherson Award: Funded by the Douglas & Kathy MacPherson Estate, annual bursary of $2,000 for 3 County residents ($6,000 total) studying in the fields of Arts & Science, Skilled Trades, or Agriculture.

Update on Municipal Community Grants 

On November 14th, Council approved a new Community Grants Policy and below we have summarized some of the upcoming changes that will be implemented in 2025.

The Municipal Community Grants program underwent an in-depth review process in 2024 led by the County’s municipal staff. The County Foundation collaborated with the municipality on this work, and we received community feedback from local organizations and community groups throughout this process. 

Overview of Program Updates

Below are some of the upcoming changes to the Municipal Community Grants program that you can anticipate for 2025. We are currently busy planning for these updates and looking forward to sharing more ahead of the official relaunch of the program in the Spring.

Operational Support - ​In addition to providing funding in support of project expenses, the Municipal Community Grants can now be used to assist with operational costs associated with delivering programs and services that benefit Prince Edward County. 

​Did you know?  Municipal funding represents an average of 8% of local organizations’ budgets (from PEC Organizations Survey) 

Multi-Year Grants - Applicants will now be able to apply for multi-year grants for the term of Council. Applicants will be able to apply for a 2-year multi-year grant in 2025 as Council’s term ends in 2026. 

In-Kind Funding - Applicants will be able to apply for in-kind funding up to $2,000 in 2025. The County Foundation will accept applications for in-kind support twice a year (Spring and Fall). Organizations and community groups that have been operating for less than a year will only be eligible to apply for an in-kind grant. 

Arts Funding - Arts mandated organizations will now apply through the PEC Arts Fund. This is an arts-specific grant program that aims to support our thriving artistic community. On December 17th, The County Foundation’s Board approved the creation of the PEC Arts Fund which will be supported annually by $50k allocated from the County’s share of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) revenue for the term of Council, and $25k in seed funding from The County Foundation. The PEC Arts Fund will be able to accept donations from individuals, families, and businesses who wish to support the arts in our community. 

​The Municipal Community Grants and PEC Arts Fund Grants will have a maximum grant size of $15,000. 

Community Engagement & Feedback  

In Feb/Mar 2024 the Municipality and The County Foundation ran a survey asking for input on municipal and TCF support of community organizations, including the Municipal Community Grants Program.  
 
In May, municipal staff reported to Council with a summary of the survey results and a new draft policy for the Community Grants Programinformed by those results. 

In Aug/Sep, the municipality held consultations on proposed Community Grant Policy changes, with the participation of The County Foundation. Representatives of community organizations gave feedback on proposed changes via 8 online sessions and email input. Participants were also given the chance to propose new ideas and additional changes to the policy. We had 28 total participants, with representation across Health/Social Services, Arts/Culture and Recreation/ Environment/Heritage sectors. 

In Nov 2024, municipal staff presented the draft Municipal Community Grants policy which included additional changes in response to feedback from those consultations. This policy was approved by Council and will now guide the 2025 Municipal Community Grants program which will relaunch officially in Spring 2025.

The County Foundation was pleased to announce the 2024 Huff Family Fund grant recipients at Huff Estates Winery on November 19th, 2024.

The Huff Family Fund was established in 2017 and officially launched in 2018 and is managed by The County Foundation. The Huff Fund supports a broad range of organizations benefiting Prince Edward County including addiction and mental health, animal welfare, arts and culture, healthcare and human services, housing issues and Vital Signs priority areas. Thank you to Lanny and Catharine for their ongoing commitment to supporting Prince Edward County.

The 2024 Huff Family Fund grants totaling $250k will benefit 16 local organizations who make a difference in our community across many vital sectors. The Huff Family Fund is a matching grant meaning that each dollar received must be matched by either dollars or volunteer time, increasing the impact of the funding. 

Alzheimer Society Hastings - Prince Edward 

Community social programming for local residents living with memory loss and their partners in care.

Baxter Arts Centre 

Installation of an electronic accessible doorway and developing intergenerational arts programming. 

Canadian Cancer Society 

Hope for Wheels reimburses volunteer drivers who assist individuals traveling to cancer-related appointments. 

The Children’s Foundation 

 

PEC Angel Tree – Updating to new online system to increase efficiency and materials for volunteers to help carry out event. 

County Food Hub 

5-week culinary course in PEC held at County Food Hub (CFH) that provides no-cost, universally accessible, cooking classes.  

County Kids Read 

Distribute 1800 books (600 per year) focused on enhancing literacy and STEM learning opportunities. Multiyear grant for 3 years.  

County Museums 

Traveling exhibit consisting of 41 framed neck-pieces created as a celebration and tribute to 41 Canadian women, past and present.

County Stage Company 

10-week repertory theatre ensemble that will rehearse and perform locally. 

Department of Illumination 

Artist residency in Delhi offering drop-in workshops. Includes collaborative art-making, expressive dance events, lectures and guided walks centred on the park.

Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation 

Food for Learning Program - Provide nutritious meals to students in school.

HUB Child & Family Centre 

Prepare long term rental to open 49 childcare spaces to address waitlist of over 400 children. 

Ontario Farmland Trust

Regent Theatre

Our first ever multi-year grant will enable us to distribute nearly 2000 STEM-themed fiction and non-fiction books over 3 years, inspired by research demonstrating that children's books can play a key role in enhancing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning experiences and outcomes. “Art is a powerful connector, especially during the holiday season. Thanks to the Huff Family Fund we are presenting a staged reading of William Shakespeare’s Christmas Carol with puppets on December 7th at 7PM. This partnership between the Regent Theatre & Driftwood Theatre with the Department of Illumination is a wonderful example of what’s possible when organizations collaborate to build community. The County Foundation is thrilled to announce the establishment of the Al and Eurithe Purdy Fund, dedicated to supporting Canadian authors and preserving the historic Al Purdy A-Frame in Ameliasburgh, Ontario. This fund aims to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the iconic A-Frame, located on picturesque Roblin Lake, while also facilitating the prestigious Al and Eurithe Purdy Poetry Award. 


The Al and Eurithe Purdy Poetry Award, valued at $10,000 annually, will be presented to a Canadian poet of distinguished achievement, having independently published at least five books of poetry, each consisting of 48 pages or more.

Al Purdy (1918-2000), renowned as one of Canada’s most celebrated poets, left an indelible mark on Canadian literature with his distinctive voice and profound insights into the Canadian experience. Over his illustrious career, Purdy authored more than 30 books, embodying the essence of Canadiana in his poetry. Al and Eurithe Purdy's deep connection to the Bay of Quinte region is epitomized by their purchase of the A-Frame property in 1957, where Al Purdy crafted some of his most celebrated works. 


"The A-frame became home base for Al and I, where Al felt most in touch with his loyalist roots and was inspired to do his best work." reflects Eurithe Purdy, 99. "Our home became a gathering place for Canadian writers and I am delighted this fund will enable that literary legacy to continue and grow." 

The Purdy's A-Frame Property: A Haven for Artists​

The A-Frame has long served as a haven for notable Canadian poets and authors, including luminaries such as Michael Ondaatje and Margaret Atwood. Al Purdy's contributions to literature were recognized with two Governor General's Awards for Poetry (1965, 1986) and the Order of Canada (1982). Al Purdy passed away April 21st   


"The County Foundation is honoured to support this fund for the Purdys, whose personal history is deeply intertwined with the ongoing artistic and cultural heritage of Prince Edward County," says Dominique Jones, Executive Director of The County Foundation. "Not only is this to be a legacy to the Purdys, but in true spirit to Al and Eurithe, will continue to support the creative work of future Canadian poets and authors for many years to come."

by hosting writers in residence, providing an inspiring environment for literary creation.
